Finding Mindful Running, with Lupa Run

Mindfulness & Meditations on the Move to find the headspace you need

Guest post from Lupa Run

Our day to day is often busy and without enough presence. Stressful and with little physical activity.

More and more people are turning to meditation as a coping tool to find more balance in their lives.

At Lupa Run, we have decided to combine the most effective mindfulness and meditation practices with the power of movement, to create an even richer, deeper and more meaningful experience.

This, is called Mindful Running.

What is Mindful Running?

Mindful running is a form of exercise that combines running with mindfulness techniques, such as breathwork, body scan, non-judgmental presence, and awareness.

The goal of mindful running is to help you become more aware of your thoughts, feelings, and sensations as you run, rather than getting lost in your thoughts or letting your mind wander.

This can help you to stay more focused and present during your run which has the potential of improving your performance.

Above all, it may help you reduce stress and anxiety, improve your overall sense of well-being and enjoy your run more.

A 2016 study found that combining mindfulness and running can even decrease depression symptoms by 40%. Some people find that mindful running can also help them to become more attuned to their bodies, which may help them to run more efficiently and reduce their risk of injury.

How do you Run Mindfully?

Common ways to practise mindful running include:

1. Paying attention to your breathing: focusing on the sensation of the air moving in and out of your body as you run.

2. Noticing your surroundings: Taking in the sights, sounds, and smells around you as you run.

3. Observing your body: Noticing how your body feels as you run, including any tension or discomfort.

4. Accepting your thoughts and feelings: Don't try to push away any negative thoughts or feelings that come up, but rather acknowledge them and let them pass.

Easy, right? Well, for some people running is a natural way to destress, but for others, the mind still won’t stop. Add all the questions about running itself: “what should I do today?”, “am I running at the right pace?”, etc.
